Bioregional Information Expert

Laura studied sociology at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Mexico City. Since 1985 she has focused on environmental education and activism. She is one of the founders and principle organizers of the bioregional movement in Mexico, which since 1990 has hosted 8 national councils, one continental gathering and several local events. In 2000 she helped found Ayotl A.C., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promoting the bioregional movement in Latin America. In that same year she coordinated a 4-day course in Renewable Energy for non-specialists as part of an academic-scientific forum sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society and other international organizations.

At the local level, Laura has organized and taught organic gardening and Permaculture courses for children, teenagers and adults. She has also been active in supporting the only women-run recycling center in the state of Morelos and started the first community supported agriculture project to link organic producers with consumers in Cuernavaca. Laura, with Beatrice Briggs, is the principal organizer and on-site coordinator of this course.
